What are Beaver Scouts?
The Beaver Colony is the first and youngest section of the Scout Group; they meet up for an hour per week.
Beaver Scouts are young people (boys and girls) aged between 6 and 8.5 years old.
When do our Beaver sessions run?
We have two Beaver colonies – Derwent and Thirlmere. They meet during term time at our Scout Hut on Parkgate Road. Our Derwent Colony is led by Angela, Paul, Victoria & Richard and meet on a Monday between 6:15pm – 7:15pm. Our Thirlmere Colony is led by Sandra and Richard and meet on a Tuesday between 6:30pm – 7:30pm.
We would love to welcome your child to our Scout Group, please use the “Contact Us” button to being the process of adding your child’s name to our wait list we can add them once they have their fifth birthday.
Activities and Achievements
During their time in the Colony, Beaver Scouts will get a chance to try a wide range of different activities as well as going on trips and days out. They also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so it’s a real adventure for them. There are a range of badges and challenge awards that Beaver Scouts can gain to recognise their achievements.
The Beaver Scout Promise, Law, and Motto
There are a number of variations of the Beaver Scout Promise to reflect the range of faiths, beliefs, attitudes, and nationalities, in the UK within Scouting. It is a way to introduce the Scouting values in all sections.
The Beaver Scout Law: There is no formal Beaver Scout Law. The concepts expressed in the Scout Law are to be presented to Beaver Scouts through games, storytelling, and other informal activities.
The Beaver Scout Motto: Be prepared
Beaver Scout Uniform and Flag
Beaver Scouts wear a turquoise sweatshirt with a Group scarf (often called a Necker) and a coloured woggle which identifies their Lodge (Yellow, Red, Blue. Green).
The Green and Red Necker is provided by the Group when the Beaver is invested as a full member.
We always welcome parent helpers and other volunteers.
