We are in a similar position to many other Scout Groups in that we now need to raise money to invest in our building and equipment. We have fundraised for many years and have now begun to update our building and grounds.
Firstly we landscaped our grounds so our young people can get outdoors more, we are able to use the site as a safe camping area and we have added a firepit which they love.
We have installed a commercial kitchen into the building, bringing it fully up to date with double ovens, numerous cooking rings and lots of preparation areas.
In Spring 2019 we were able to remove our old, dated and leaking roof and completely replace with a brand new roof, this now offers us extra insulation and keeping the building warmer.
We are in the middle of replacing all our windows, not only does this cosmetically improve the building but increases our security and as we have upgraded from single glazing this will keep our young people warmer.
Our next task is our floor – we hope to repair, sand and refinish this and then finally decorating the whole building internally. Our estimate to complete is £20,000 so we are busy planning ways to raise the funds.
We already perform well in fundraising. Our main events such as Bonfire Night and the Beer and Wine Festival contribute significant funds – although we always need more volunteers to help run these activities.
But individual members of the group can help as well. We particularly welcome your involvement in our supermarket bag packing days, and we hope to increase the numbers of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and their families who take part in the District Yomp every spring.
Please email us if you can help our fundraising efforts in any way. We particularly welcome new volunteers for our new fundraising network.
